Mike, a former mayor of Novato, California, passed away of leukemia on April 6, 2014. He was 73.
His more than 20 years as a Novato resident took a public service direction when, in 1993, he became a member of Novato’s homeless commission. Since then, he served on the Hamilton Advisory Committee, was on the city council from 1995-2003, serving as mayor twice, and was president of Marin County Council of Mayors and Councilpersons, a board member of the Downtown Business Association from 2005-2007, a member of the Board of Novato Sanitary District and, among many transportation roles, was an original SMART board member. He was a real estate agent with Athas & Associates.
Mike’s career spanned multiple fields, including working in foreign trade, on BART with Kaiser Sand & Gravel, as a stockbroker, and at Di Giorgio Corp, as well as running a commuter airline, working for aircraft speculators and owning a video store.
Following a three-year stint in the U.S. Army, Mike returned home, graduating from San Francisco State with a major in international trade and a minor in transportation. He earned his MBA from Pepperdine University in 1979.
Mike is survived by Gordonna Vuksich, his wife of 37 years, and his son Anthony.
