audra.quinnAudra launched a 37-day Kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary funds to produce her Pepperdine University Business Plan Competition-winning wine-tasting board game UNCORKED! The fun party game challenges players to come up with entertaining tasting notes as they sample new wines.

If you’ve ever been wine tasting, you’ve probably heard connoisseurs conjure many an obscure description, such as “Notes of blackberry and wet sheep dog!” or “Crushed rock, pencil shavings and cedar!” Audra and her co-founders Ashley Borg and Lars Thorn (hilarious mascot “Corki,” a 7-foot walking, talking bottle of wine) created the game because they were so impressed and amused by the tasting notes they found while wine tasting.

“We just started coming up with the most obscure and ridiculous things we could possibly taste in there, like ‘hints of jicama and hot dog water.’ We realized, this would be a fun game!”

The trio also competed in the Pepperdine University Business Plan competition in 2013 and took first place.

For people who are not necessarily wine connoisseurs or writers, the game offers helpful “Vocabernet” and “Zinonyms,” and a theme for each round. As an example, “If this wine had a job, what would it do?”

Players may learn a thing or two about wine terminology while they play, but the real point is to make wine tasting more fun.

“The fact is, there’s no right or wrong way to taste something; it’s completely subjective,” says Quinn, who notes that UNCORKED! is the only wine-tasting game on the market that doesn’t take its subject matter too seriously.

“This game breaks down the exclusivity of wine culture and lets players have some fun with the jargon. There are no wrong answers in UNCORKED!”
