Dorcas has been appointed to the Board of Visitors at the University of Mary Washington, it was announced by the Virginia Governor’s Office. She will serve a four-year term, which expires June 30, 2015.
Dorcas is head of DR Hardy & Associates, a government relations and policy firm. She has served in a number of state and federal positions, including assistant secretary of Human Development Services for the Department of Health and Human Services. As commissioner of Social Security, she was chief executive officer of the national social insurance programs.
Dorcas has launched and hosted the weekly television program Financing Your Future on Financial News Network and UPI Broadcasting, and has hosted The Senior American, a political magazine show for older Americans. She also speaks and writes about domestic and international retirement and financing issues and entitlement program reforms. In addition, Dorcas is chairman and chief executive officer of Work Recovery Inc., a rehabilitation technology firm in Tucson, Ariz., and has served on the board of directors for First Coast Service Options Inc., the Medicare contractor of Florida Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Dorcas has a bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College and has completed the executive program in health policy and financial management at Harvard University. She is also an MBA graduate of Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management.
